Anna Yamada

Another gentle gem from the compilation 10 Girls’ Voice, Anna Yamada is the vocalist in Comainu, a duo she formed with trumpeter Mai Nakazawa in 2003. Anna plays from her laptop usually, although during their live shows “every kind of ’sound makers’, such as speaking stuffed animals, toy organs and kids’ gear creates their uniquely cute and innocent sounds.”

On Bedtown, a more adult offering, Anna’s solo voice calls out for companionship in one of the suburban sleep communes that surround Tokyo. A piano lament that’s smoky and twinkling like a vast chemical plant viewed from a lonely commuter train at night. We like it.
